🚑 Seek urgent care if:
  • Sudden patchy hair loss, hair loss with a scaly or inflamed scalp, or hair loss with other symptoms such as marked fatigue or weight change (possible thyroid or other illness).

Classical understanding
  • Attributed classically to aggravated pitta (with vata/kapha) affecting the hair roots, along with diet, stress and constitution.
General self-care (safe for most)
  • Be gentle with the hair and scalp, eat a nourishing balanced diet, manage stress and sleep, and consider regular scalp oiling; avoid harsh chemical/heat treatments.
Persistent or patchy hair loss should be assessed by a Vaidya or dermatologist to identify the cause.
