🚑 Seek urgent care if:
- Very high or very low blood sugar signs — confusion, drowsiness, fruity breath, rapid breathing, fainting, sweating and shakiness, or a non-healing/infected foot wound.→ Treat as an emergency and seek medical care now.
Classical understanding
- Classically framed as prameha — disorders of kapha, meda (fat) and the mūtravaha channels from a heavy, sweet, sedentary lifestyle; the depleted vāta sub-type Madhumeha, with sweet urine, is broadly compared to diabetes.
General self-care (safe for most)
- Move daily and keep a healthy weight; favour barley, whole grains, bitter vegetables and legumes; reduce sugar, refined carbohydrates, and heavy sweet or oily food. These are general wellbeing measures, not a replacement for prescribed diabetes treatment.
Diabetes is a medical diagnosis needing a doctor; never stop or change prescribed medication. Ayurvedic measures are supportive and educational only, used alongside medical care and blood-sugar monitoring.
