🚑 Seek urgent care if:
  • A hot, red, swollen joint with fever (possible infection or gout), sudden severe joint pain, joint pain after significant injury, or a joint that locks or cannot bear weight.
→ Do not self-treat. Seek prompt medical evaluation.
Classical understanding
  • Described as vāta accumulating in the joints (sandhi) causing pain, stiffness and reduced movement, worse with cold and overuse.
General self-care (safe for most)
  • Keep joints gently moving within comfort, apply warmth, avoid overexertion and cold exposure, maintain a healthy weight; gentle self-massage with warm oil may soothe stiffness.
Individual joint treatment belongs with a Vaidya; hot/swollen/feverish joints need urgent medical care.
