🚑 Seek urgent care if:
- Back pain with numbness or weakness in the legs, loss of bladder or bowel control, pain after a major fall or injury, fever, or unexplained weight loss.→ Seek urgent medical care — these need prompt assessment.
Classical understanding
- Low-back pain and stiffness are described as a vāta disorder of the kaṭi (lumbar) region (kaṭiśūla / kaṭigraha), eased by warmth, gentle movement and oil therapies.
General self-care (safe for most)
- Keep gently active and avoid prolonged bed rest, use good posture and lifting technique, apply warmth, keep a healthy weight, and strengthen the core and back gradually within comfort.
Severe, persistent or 'red-flag' back pain needs a doctor; Ayurvedic measures here are supportive and educational only.
