Breathing difficulty

श्वास · Śvāsa · Medical — see a Vaidya

The classical concept of laboured breathing (including asthma-like patterns). Educational only — breathlessness can be an emergency.

Condition🕑 1 min read
🚑 Seek urgent care if:
  • Severe breathlessness, inability to speak in full sentences, blue lips or fingertips, chest pain, or a rescue inhaler not working.
→ This is a medical emergency — seek immediate care.
Classical understanding
  • Described in classical types (notably tamaka śvāsa) from aggravated kapha and vāta obstructing the prāṇavaha channels.
General self-care (safe for most)
  • When stable, avoid known triggers (cold, dust, smoke), keep warm, and practise gentle breathing techniques; always keep any prescribed medical inhalers/medicines to hand.
Breathing disorders must be managed with a physician; Ayurvedic support is complementary and any procedure is clinic-only.
