🚑 Seek urgent care if:
- Sleeplessness with thoughts of self-harm or hopelessness, severe mood changes, or loud snoring with breathing pauses and daytime sleepiness (possible sleep apnoea).→ If you have thoughts of harming yourself, seek immediate support from a crisis line or emergency services. Persistent insomnia needs professional care.
Classical understanding
- Attributed mainly to aggravated vāta and an unsettled mind, and to habits and stress that disturb the natural rhythm of sleep.
General self-care (safe for most)
- Keep a regular sleep–wake time, wind down without screens before bed, avoid late caffeine and heavy late meals; a warm, calm routine (and warm milk for those who tolerate it) can help.
Persistent insomnia, mood symptoms, or suspected sleep apnoea should be assessed by a professional; mental-health concerns take priority.
