Anxiety / restless mind

चित्तोद्वेग · Cittodvega · Medical — see a Vaidya

The Ayurvedic view of persistent worry and mental restlessness as a vata disturbance of the mind. Educational only, not a substitute for mental-health care.

🚑 Seek urgent care if:
  • Panic with chest pain or trouble breathing, or any thoughts of harming yourself.
→ If you have thoughts of self-harm, contact your local emergency number or a crisis helpline now, and reach someone you trust. Chest pain with panic needs urgent medical assessment.
Classical understanding
  • Ayurveda frames persistent anxiety and an unsteady, agitated mind (cittodvega / anavasthita citta) largely as a vāta disturbance of manas, addressed through medhya (mind-supporting) measures, steady routine and sattvāvajaya (mind-steadying practices).
General self-care (safe for most)
  • Keep a steady daily routine and regular sleep, practise slow breathing and gentle grounding movement, reduce caffeine and stimulants, and reach out to people you trust; talking therapy and professional support are valuable and encouraged.
Anxiety responds well to professional mental-health support; please seek it. Ayurvedic measures here are supportive and educational only, alongside — not instead of — that care.
